Johana Rivas and Marian Koke, student film makers, were invited to be the special guests at the Vox Docs Film Festival in Leavenworth, Washington on March 11th. The opening night of the festival featured the film, “He Named Me Malala”. After the feature film the students and their teacher, Lori Leberer, were invited on stage to talk about the power of education and the special help they have received from the Seattle World School staff in achieving their dream of high school graduation. The audience was incredibly impressed with the young women’s poise and confidence. The two short films they made last year in their media class were presented. They were accompanied by Johana’s mother Mirna and by staff members Irene Rodriguez and Diane Howerton. Fellow senior Shirley Mendez came to support her friends and take videos of the event.
