Seattle World School Volunteer Positions
School Day Tutoring: This program serves students in the classroom during the school day. These students have been in the United States for less than a year and are adapting to a new culture, community, and education system. Tutors work one-on-one with students in specific classes (English, math, science, etc.) based on schedule and interests. As a tutor, you will:
· Encourage students’ academic enrichment by providing quality tutoring.
· Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
· Assist in engaging students to learn through organized one-on-one or small group activities.
· Assist teachers with various tasks and classroom management.
After School Tutoring: This program serves about 30-50 immigrant and refugee students every day. Students bring assignments from all their classes and at a variety of levels (from kindergarten to high school). As a tutor, you will:
· Encourage students’ academic enrichment by providing quality tutoring and assistance with homework.
· Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
· Assist in engaging students to learn through organized one-on-one or small group activities.
· Offer support in classroom management.
· Assist in collaborating with program staff to improve program activities.
Saturday School: This is a multicultural academic program. Students engage in intensive English and math instruction, followed by fun team-building academic activities. Students also go on field trips to the Zoo, Aquarium, Cougar Mountain, and other fun locations. As a Saturday School volunteer you will:
· Encourage students’ academic enrichment by providing quality tutoring.
· Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
· Assist in engaging students to learn through organized one-on-one or group activities.
· Offer support in classroom management.
· Assist in collaborating with program staff to improve program activities.
